The warrior deity accompanies the diligently hard working person
It has been about fifteen years since Danma Jyid and I had our first philosophical discussion about the purpose of our lives. We were untamed, naive, and full of wild dreams. I remember her telling me how the wide open spaces and clean air of the grassland taught her to think big and look far; and I bragged about how I had a gut feeling that if we worked hard, we could make some changes around there (our hometown).
Fourteen years later (January of 2015), Danma and I sat in a tea house at the White Yak Town Square of Bairi Tibetan Autonomous County, and wrote our plan to materialize the wild dreams we had about thinking big and making some changes around there: yak milk soaps!
I must admit, the past 23 months have been the most exciting and difficult times of our lives. Exciting because we embarked on a path to change and sustain our community’s lifestyle at the same time; difficult because, well, we embarked on a path to change and sustain our community’s lifestyle at the same time!
But we are not alone. We have an entire herd of support accompanying us on this path: nomads, farmers, our chandlers, and the yaks!
And you, my dear! You are part of this herd too. So let’s Yak My Body!
