Danma Jyid

Danma has been at the frontier of combating social issues at a very young age. She has led grassroot community development projects since she was 19 years old: from bringing running water to her village for the first time to working with domestic abuse victims in Sydney, Australia.

At the Yakma herd, Danma is in charge of production, product development, and logistics.

Danma has a BA in Public Communications from the University of Technology and MA in Social Work from University of Sydney.

Dawa Torbert
Customer Relations Manager

Dawa has always been a community leader. At the age of 18, she secured funding for the first library in her elementary school. Within the same year, she brought 50 solar energy cookers for her village in an effort to prevent pulmonary dysfunctions in women due to burning wood when cooking as well as deforestation.

At the Yakma herd, Dawa takes care of our beloved customers.

Dawa got her BA from Duke University, MHA from UNC Chapel Hill, and MBA from Elon University.

Tashi Gar
Master Chandler

Since she was five years old, Tashi Gar wanted to be an educator. She believes that knowledge can empower people to work towards their aspirations.

At the Yakma herd, Tshi Gar is our Master Chandler. She is in charge of the artistic design and quality assurance of every single bar of soap created by the team.

Tashi Gar has a BA in Education.

Tsejyid Kar & Tsokar Jyid

As a single mother,Tsokar Jyid (right) used to work long hours at construction sites in order to send her children to school. She never had the time to actually spend it with the children. All of that changed ever since she became trained to be a chandler at Yakma.

Tsejyid Kar (middle) grew up herding yaks. She finds herself the happiest when she is with the animals. Knowing that she is part of a movement that is to sustain the nomadic lifestyle in a modern way, she is more than happy to be a nomadic chandler!

Neither ladies like their pictures taken, so we will have to meet them this way :).
